Al Mixon

International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa announced on December 17th that the union's General Executive Board unanimously selected Al Mixon as a Vice President At-Large. Mixon is the principal officer of Local 507 in Cleveland, Ohio and is the Chairman of the TNBC.

"Al Mixon is a strong union leader who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the General Executive Board," Hoffa said. "Al is a proven leader who has never backed down from a fight. I look forward to working closely with him in the battle for worker justice."

Mixon began his Teamster career as a factory worker at Mameco International in 1977. He has served as an elected officer of Local 507 since 1993 and was elected Secretary-Treasurer of Joint Council 41 in 2007.

"I look forward to working with Jim Hoffa and the General Executive Board in the fight for working people," Mixon said. "Workers are in need of strong representation now more than ever. Together we will ensure that working families get the dignitiy that they deserve."

Mixon replaces Carroll Haynes, the former principal officer of Local 237 in New York, who announced his retirement earlier this month.

Greg Floyd Re-Elected Atop Local 237

Teamsters Local 237, the Teamsters' largest Local with more than 24,000 members in New York City and surrounding communities, re-elected President Gregory Floyd on October 7th in a hotly contested vote. Floyd was first elected to the position on March 30, 2007, becoming Local 237's 5th President in more than 55 years.

TNBC joins all Teamsters in congratulating Greg on his re-election an in wishing him continued success as a dedicated advocate for his members.

A Milestone Reached

When the TNBC was formed, one of its goals was to see an African-American appointed to the position of Director of the Teamsters Human Rights Commission. After 38 years of demanding that this goal be realized, IBT General President James Hoffa appointed Antonio Christian to succeed Cheryl Johnson as Director - HRC.

Congratulations to Antonio and to the TNBC on a long overdue honor.

Antonio is the Recording Secretary at Local 853 in California.
